SYNOPSIS
Pedro, son of a mother from Burgos and a father from Mallorca, finds solace in the work of Damià Huguet. Huguet’s poems allow him to remember his father and connect with his roots, even though he does not fully understand the Mallorcan words. This experience drives Pedro to search for his identity, exploring themes of fatherhood, masculinity and “mallorquinitat”. Through poetry, Pedro questions his feelings and embarks on a journey of self-discovery.
AUTHOR’S NOTE
This short film is based on his play of the same name. In it, Pedro Mas pays homage to his father by telling him the things he was unable to tell him when he was alive. But, like the play, this film goes far beyond a personal and intimate relationship between father and son. It is a personal story but the central theme, the search for identity, is a universal theme that everyone can relate to, regardless of their origins and language.
Damià Huguet made Pedro discover another Mallorca beyond the one his father passed on to him. Barbecho’ (play) did the same with me. And now I want to do the same with this film: to make Pedro discover the feelings that Huguet’s play and Pedro’s relationship with his father spread; many of these emotions have to do with the passage of time, nostalgia, culture, language and Mallorcan identity.
